As a hub for college journalists to submit and evaluate content, Campus Lede is a competitive social network and an evolving, collaborative online school for college journalists. The Campus Lede’s website provides college journalists with an open forum for enhancing and certifying work, and its mobile application template will offer college publications a customizable smartphone application that will enable students and alumni to access their content easily and therefore increase readership. Both of these revenue streams will propel the growth of this business. Its purpose is three-fold:

Increase Journalistic Quality:
Competition breeds higher quality. Campus Lede will offer a metric that allows users to rank college journalists based on the content they submit with a simple vote-up/vote-down mechanism — and as we have come to see with crowd-sourced websites like Wikipedia, the masses have a keen sense of quality.

At national college media conventions, student journalists spend their time showcasing their own work, looking at their competition, and critiquing others around the country. Campus Lede will bring these exchanges online and recreate the convention atmosphere every day. It won’t be about the content of these submissions (campus events, arrests, etc.) but the quality of submissions, and how the journalist reports it.

Entwine Journalism & Mobile Technology:
College newspapers have not entered the world of mobile applications, but not because of disinterest. Presently, there is no cost-effective way for a college newspaper to build a mobile application. Providing a mobile application interface for the more than 2,000 college newspapers in America will create an affordable way for student newspapers to jump into the mobile world.

Educate & Engage:
As a network for college journalists, Campus Lede will provide original content, expertise, and resources for college journalists. Campus Lede will offer an interactive map of college newspapers from around the country, as well as webinars, professional critiques, and original, instructive, and entertaining content.
